Shakuhachi Lessons

Come join me for online lessons over Zoom or Facetime or in the comforts of your home in the Las Vegas/ Santa Fe, New Mexico area. Whether you are a beginner to playing an instrument, or would like to further your understanding of the shakuhachi world I can help you along your path. In our lessons we’ll cover:

• Sound production and understanding the use of your embouchure, face and body to produce beautiful tone.
• Good body posture to help with efficient breathing, better sound and to avoid injury playing in the long run.
• We’ll cover various genres taught to me through the Mujuan (Jin Nyodo) Lineage: Honkyoku (temple music) , Sankyoku (traditional Japanese ensemble music), and modern (both western and Japanese notation) music styles.
• My lessons are catered around the individual and we will cover other aspects of Shakuhachi playing as needed.

My lessons will incorporate techniques and tricks I’ve learned from my teacher, David Yudo Sawyer, and those I’ve learned from the various flute teachers while getting my Bachelor of Music degree in (western) classical flute performance.
